Well, we went ahead and greeted this new summer season with the gusto. The third annual Blessing of the Bicycles included walking tacos, rootbeer floats, a huge drum circle and a concert by Crazy Chester. We held the event at the Art House North. Go and read about Art House...we love what they are doing here in the West End. Plus, they provided sweet digs for this event that included a beautiful sanctuary (where we rocked, danced and rolled. Seriously, two 8-year-olds were on roller skates.), an adorable old-school church basement fellowship hall and a yard. A YARD! We blessed a ton of bikes and riders--asking God to be with us as we peddle and coast. Then we busted out the drums in the backyard. I'm deeply grateful for those experienced drummers who came and led and graciously allowed many young hands to handle their instruments. Taco's walked all over, root beer floated, people talked and laughed. And Crazy Chester plugged in and provided a soundtrack of Neil Young, The Decembers, The Blasters...and many more.
We are so grateful for all the folks who helped make this event happen. Likewise, we are thrilled and grateful for all those who took a risk and came to a HW event for the first time. (We understand how hard that is).
THEN, we gathered for Beer and Hymns at Shamrock's Pub. And that was just out of control fun. A packed house singing old hymns at the top of their lungs. THEN, Wild Thursdays kicked off a summer of fun behind Adam's Elementary school with an ice cream social.
I keep asking/praying for Less Control. More Waffles. 2012. As it turns out, things are totally out-of-control in a good way. Funny.
(I am also guessing you would like to see photo's...because everyone loves photo's. Well, lucky us to have Micah Taylor and his fancy camera work three years running. Stay tuned for those. They are worth the wait.)
Also, we raised about $750 for our group traveling to New Orleans in July. Amazing.
