Humble Walk Lutheran Church EnnouncementsFriday, March 25 - Monday, April 4, 2011 (Why stop at Sunday when there's something happening on Monday?)
We invite you to pray for our partner congregation, Zion Lutheran of Amor near Battle Lake, MN. On Monday, a teenage member of the congregation shot and killed his girlfriend and then shot himself. This young couple leaves behind an eight-month-old daughter, as well as close family and friends who are in deep grief.
Sunday, March 27 - Worship at 4:30 - Part 3 of walking through the Bible narrative, The Testing of Abraham. Coffee and lemonade will follow worship. Communion Server: Lydia Offering Counters (2): Volunteers needed - email Jodi to sign up. Prayer Leader: Volunteer needed - email Jodi to sign up. Communion Bread: Andy
Friday, April 1 - Operation Caffeination - 7:00 - 8:30am at W 7th and Randolph. If you'd like to either volunteer for OpCaff neighborhood outreach or donate to the coffee and doughnuts kitty, contact Brie.
Sunday, April 3 - Feast Day Worship at 4:30 - Part 4 of walking through the Bible Narrative, Salvation. We will be having a community Feast Day at which we'll sit down to a meal together at the table, followed by the Word, the Prayers of the People, and Holy Communion. Also, this special Feast Day will include a State of the Congregation update given by the Leadership Committee. Come. Eat. Hear. Pray. Learn. If you are interested in helping with food for the feast, contact Brie.
Monday, April 4 - Theology on Tap at Skinner's Pub - 7:00 - 9:00pm Guest theologian Mary Shore (Professor of New Testament at Luther Seminary). Topic: Theological worlds (which one are you in?). Plus, hear about our summer together (which involves less talk, more walk).
Feast Days: We have started a new way of sharing our time together as a church that does not always include sitting down together for a meal. We're been sharing snacks, coffee, and lemonade following worship and then celebrating a Feast Day the first Sunday of every month. The next Feast Day will be Sunday, April 3, when the entire service will be comprised of eating together a meal that has been provided (not potluck) by members of the congregation followed by the Word, the Prayers of the People, and Holy Communion. Please join us at the table.
State of the Congregation: We've had many exciting things happening around Humble Walk, much having to do with Spring, but also with our newly formed Leadership Committee: Slade Thompson (finances), Grant Applehans (education), Brie Trovall (hospitality), Andy Lien (communications), as well as our intern, Michelle Walka, and Pastor Jodi. We're putting together an update and plan to talk a little about it during the Feast Day meal in early April. If you can't make it to Humble Walk that day, you'll also get an update by way of the ennouncements.
Church Camp at Bay Lake: You've heard a little bit here or there about Humble Walk Goes to Camp. It's happening. This summer. Find out more here.
Wild Goose Festival: Humble Walk also goes to North Carolina. We roadtrip well...we think. This summer, a group of us are going to the Wild Goose Festival. Justice. Spirituality. Music. Art. According to the festival website: "In adopting the image of the Wild Goose we recognize that in the current climate of religious, social and political cynicism, embracing the creative and open nature of our faith is perhaps our greatest asset for re-building and strengthening our relationships with each other, with our enemies, with our stories, our texts, and the earth. In that spirit, in a festive setting, and in the context of meaningful, respectful, and sustained relationships, we invite you to create with us!" Consider coming along. All are welcome.
