what does membership even mean?

I will be the first to admit that I have no idea what we should do with "membership." When you talk about HW, do you say, "Oh, I am a member of Humble Walk. This weird little church in the West End." Maybe. We don't really have membership classes. Maybe you say, "I am a part of..." or "I worship with..." HW doesn't have a roll. I do have a notebook page with the names of people who make their way to the Pilney on Sundays. Like most things we do, it's very fluid. To be honest, I am not a big fan of "members" and "nonmembers"--too much "in" and "out" language for me. Why don't we just go ahead and say "sheep" or "goat."  There IS something to making a commitment to faith community. To show up, to contribute, to be a part of the quiet revolution of loving your neighbors.  This is sort of interesting...(don't let the Baptist title scare you)...http://http://www.abpnews.com/content/view/5759/9
