New Staff at HW

Through a generous grant from Luther Seminary, we are gifted with a youth and family intern. Michelle Walka will be with our community for the next 20 months--for about 10 hours a week. Michelle (and her amazing husband, Keith) have already wiggled right into our community. You may have met them at Theology on Tap or while tie-dying at Wild Wednesday or at worship. Here is a bit more directly from Michelle-- Hello Fellow Humble Walkers!  My name is Michelle Walka and I look forward to serving with you in this worship community.  Pastor Jodi wanted me to share with you all a little about myself, so without further ado… this is me in a nutshell (as I hold my arms up above my head in the shape of a nutJ).  My husband, Keith, and I just recently moved here from Florida to study at Luther Seminary in the Master of Divinity Program.  My undergraduate degree is in social work.   In Florida, I was the Youth and Family Ministry Director for the past 4 years at St. Timothy Lutheran Church.  Previous to this position, I have been involved in a variety of local, national, and international ministries (ranging from summer camp programs and retreats for all ages to accompaniment trips to Guyana and Puerto Rico).  Résumé aside, my passion is people of all ages and how we can grow together in faith as well as how we connect our faith to daily living.  I pray we can wrestle together with the simple yet complex question of “What does it mean to be a follower of Christ?”   There are so many avenues we can explore this: through worship, learning opportunities, as well as times of hanging out with the community… our community.  Besides wrestling with tough questions, I enjoy playing guitar, arts and crafts projects, spending time in the outdoors, and cooking (or at least experimenting in the kitchen).  Again, I look forward to serving with you and getting to know you through this wonderful community called Humble Walk!   Peace to you all, Michelle
