learning curve

choir Last Wednesday evening, we gathered for hymnsinghomebrewchurchonthedeck. We had fine musicians (thank you, Bill, Marty Stone Marty and Nate), good food, fine beverages and hot sticky weather. We also used real hymnals. We sang our little hearts out.  All these things were fantastic. True to Humble Walk's nature, our gathered community consisted of many young folks.

Over the course of the evening, I learned two things:

1. When adults sit with beginning readers and help them find the page numbers---they sing with gusto....proudly belting out songs they are able to follow.

 2. Expecting kids to stay engaged longer than 15 minutes--after playing hard in the sun and swimming and fighting with their siblings all day long--is too much.

Both valuable teaching points for our community.
