Walking Wet

baptismIn holy baptism the triune God delivers us from the forces of evil, puts our sinful self to death, gives us new birth, adopts us as children, and makes us members of the body of Christ, the church.

This Sunday, our community gets to surround Lucy Kurtz May as she is baptized. On behalf of the whole church, we promise to support her, confess the faith with her, and welcome her into the body of Christ. Water connected to the Word--God's saving promise in Jesus Christ--is at the center of the baptismal celebration. (Evangelical Lutheran Worship, page 225).

Lucy is too small to even know what's about to hit her. Part of our role as her community is to remind her what happened--and to remind her of the promises God made to her.

The Kurtz-May baptismal party (and ohhh, it will be a party) is providing the post-worship feast. You all just show up, worship and eat.

Next Monday, join me at Skinner's for text study/worship planning/brainstorming for Pentecost Sunday. 7-9PM. All ages welcome.
